preparing your home for sale. part 1
clean.
Taking the time to roll up your sleeves and give your home a thorough deep clean from corner to corner is a great way to not only prepare your space for potential buyers but also provides you with a chance to spot any minor wear and tear that may require a quick fix before listing.
Our top tips for conducting a thorough clean of your property before listing it on the market are:
- Clean your windows, a job that is hard to enjoy, but the look of clean windows is a bonus when it comes time to sell your home.
- Get the exterior of your home cleaned - we recommend bringing in the professionals to do this.
- Mow lawns, remove weeds, and have the grass edging looking sharp and trimmed. This always has excellent visual appeal.
- Clean off moss or mould, if present, on patios, driveways and decks (typically on the south side of your home)
- Inspect the condition of your roof and have it cleaned if necessary.
- Use a ‘magic eraser’ to remove scuff marks from skirting boards and walls.
- Getting the carpets of your home professionally cleaned is a great way to breathe new life into them and remove any stains.
- A nice touch, but not essential, is to establish a vegetable garden so that it’s thriving and attractive to potential buyers when they come to view your property.
- If your vehicle needs to stay on the property, make sure it is also clean. This may sound strange but we all know how awesome a clean car looks—it will compliment the property. Trust us it helps!
